The holidays are over but we’re still smiling about the good times we enjoyed with our loved ones. A new year has dawned and it’s the perfect time for a change. If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to shop fair trade and more sustainably, then you’ll definitely need to follow our top tips to make 2020 your most fashion-conscious year yet.
1. Buy from brands you trust
The more you know about a brand and their processes, the more informed you'll be when it comes to making conscious fashion choices. Tap on the "about us" section of your favourite online stores and have a read. Ask friends about their views and the things they've heard and even pop in if they have a brick and mortar shop. Discover our story here.
2. Check the label
Understanding what you're buying not only affects an item's longevity, it also plays a huge part in how you take care of it. When purchasing online it's important to know how much value you are getting for the price and what you can do with the item when you no longer want it.
3. Create a capsule wardrobe
The less you buy, the lower your environmental footprint. This year, take time to define your style and core colours. Once you have a clear idea of what you wish to "say" with your wardrobe, have a clear-out! Donate, sell or swap things you no longer love and purchase one or two key pieces that will integrate with your selection.
4. Search local first
From raw material sourcing to production process to the warehouses, there are many steps to consider in the supply chain of getting an item to your front door. It’s a HUGE bonus if a company is sourcing materials locally and/or is manufacturing locally. Most brands are happy to share information about their sustainability efforts.
